Chamber Music Skills Workshop with Karen Iglitzin – strings only
NEW FORMAT AS OF 9/21/22: NO PRE-FORMED GROUPS NECESSARY!
Middle and high schoolers! Here is your chance to be challenged and inspired in a new way. No pre-formed group needed, and no performance at the end – come alone or with a friend or two. This half-day workshop with renowned chamber coach Karen Iglitzin will build your confidence with reading and chamber skills. (Pre-formed groups are still welcome and will receive a masterclass along with the sightreading program. Just let us know.)
Playing level: Roughly Book 7 and up; you need to be able to sight read music that is approximately as difficult as a Suzuki Book 4 piece. Students who want to do both the chamber program and the Suzuki graduation concert will be able to fit in both. Please indicate graduation participation when you register.
Teachers! You are welcome to observe the reading and participate in a Q and A with Karen about chamber coaching. You will learn so much from her unique, empowering, and transformative approach to coaching chamber music.
Day & Time: Saturday, October 15. Two sessions at 10-12 and 1-3. Come to one or both.

Program schedule:
- 9:45 arrive at Karen’s studio to warm up
- 10:00-12:00 sight reading workshop morning session @ Karen’s studio
- 12:00-12:45 – lunch/break
- 12:45 afternoon participants arrive at Karen’s studio to warm up
- 1:00-3:00 sight reading workshop afternoon session @ Karen’s studio
- 3:00-3:30 Q&A for teachers at Karen’s studio
- (3:00- 4:00 graduation rehearsal at Maple Leaf Lutheran; 4:00 graduation concert)
Cost: $60 per session, choose morning, afternoon or both sessions.
About Karen Iglitzin
Karen is a lifelong coach and mentor to teenagers. She has taught chamber music as a specialist in the high schools of Washington state since 1982, and is admired and trusted by scores of teachers, parents and students. Karen was recipient of the 2000 Kay Logan Award, a national award for excellence in chamber music teaching. She was selected for years of coaching, teacher-training and creating camps and events to promote the art of chamber music. Learn more about Karen here.
